It is suggested that students purchase a hard copy of their required novels, but I will try to provide free eBook copies of them if possible to be used electronically. However, I have posted the full list on my portion of the school’s webpage if parents would like to go ahead and purchase these novels. Please only purchase the novels required for your child’s English class.

To view this list, please click on the "Required Reading List for the School Year (2024-2025)" link on the right of this screen.

**Students are expected to use their notebooks and assigned textbooks and their classes every day. Most assignments will be submitted on paper in person.

***Students will NOT use cell phones in class this year. Chromebooks will be used in class on occasion.

Welcome, Students!

I am so excited to be here at Glenwood with you and to be a Glenwood Gator! I know that we will have a great school year.
We will use Google Classroom almost every day this year, so please be prepared to make that your go-to place for assignments,  announcements, and class materials. I will invite ALL of my students for the (2024-2025) school year to join my Google Classroom within the first two weeks of school. (My students must join, so parents, please make sure your child has done so.) In addition, I offer tutoring after school on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:05 to 4:00 in my classroom. Students need to schedule a time for tutoring with me the day before they plan to stay.
Best of luck this year, and I wish you nothing but success. Go Gators!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Shaver

About the Teacher:
I am a graduate of Auburn University in Secondary Language Arts Education. I taught in Chambers County, Alabama, for twenty-six years with eleven years at the middle school level and fifteen years at the high school level teaching all grades from seventh through twelfth. During those years, I taught General English, Advanced English, Reading Remediation, Communications/Public Speaking, ACT Prep, and Journalism. During my tenure in public education, I was honored to receive the Teacher of the Year Award at both W.F. Burns Middle School and Valley High School as well as the Chambers County Secondary Teacher of the Year Award.
I retired from the Alabama Public Education System in 2020 and moved to the Alabama Independent School Association and Glenwood School in August 2020. I am currently teaching 9th and 10th-grade English, Honors 9th-grade English, and Honors 10th-grade English. I also sponsor the Interact Service Club.  In 2022, I was honored to be named Glenwood School's Page One Nominee for the Sara Spano Top Teacher of the Year Award.
My husband Gary and I have two children, Bailey (27), and Bryant (23). We also have our "bonus son," and Bailey's husband, Anthony. Bailey is a graduate of Auburn University with a Business Administration degree. Bryant is also a graduate of Auburn University with a Management Information Systems (MIS) degree. We are definitely an Auburn family! WAR EAGLE!
It has been such a blessing to be here at Glenwood School, and I am thrilled to begin my 31st year in education at this wonderful place. I look forward to meeting you all!
GO GATORS!
